Long term overproduction of cytokines contributes to the breakdown and depletion of lean body mass, fat and glycogen stores.</div> <bR> <div> 3)  Chemotherapy and radiation therapy lead to the loss of lean body mass and fat stores by several different mechanisms.  Important changes include reduced caloric intake due to anorexia, and gastrointestinal tract damage, leading to malabsorption. </div> <bR> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> Copyright © 2001 CancerWasting.com.
